ABEREINION Ceredigion Welsh motte & bailey c.1156 captured in 1158. Private.
AMROTH Dyfed Originally a motte with a wooden bailey, later rebuilt as a small 12th century stone castle. Part of the 14th century gateway remains. Private
BAGLAN Glamorgan Welsh fortification of unknown history, probably 13th century. Only earthworks and part of a tower remain. Private.

BISHOP'S PALACE, WELLS Somerset Fortified and moated palace.
BLAENPORTH Ceredigion A minor motte and bailey castle destroyed by the Welsh in 1215.
BODYDDON   Welsh motte & bailey castle destroyed in 1257. Overgrown earthworks remain. Private.
BOTHAL Northumbria A mid 14th century castle with a large gatehouse near Morpeth that has been restored. Private.
CAERGWRLE Flintshire The castle was built in c.1277 by Welsh allied to English on a hill above the river. It was destroyed by fire in 1283 and abandoned before completion - the west side of the cliff was never built. Now in ruins but part of the tower and curtain wall still stand.
CANDLESTON South Glamorgan A 15th century fortified manor house which was probably built on site of earlier wooden castle. Open all year .
CARN FADRYN Gwynedd  A ruined Welsh castle dating from 1188, set 1200 foot high up on a rocky crag. Open.
CARNDOCHAN Gwynedd Earthworks and some masonry remains from a Welsh early 13th century castle on top of a mountain ridge. Private.
CASTELL BOLAN Glamorgan A small motte only remains. Private.
CASTELL PRYSOR   A badly ruined motte & bailey castle, possibly 12th century and Welsh built. Open.
CASTELL MEREDYDD Newport Early 13th century Welsh castle captured in 1236 and built up in stone. Earthworks and tumbled stone only remain. Private.
CASTELL NOS Swansea Early 13th century Welsh timber castle on rocky outcrop. Little now remains. Open.
CEREINION   1156 Welsh motte castle destroyed in 1166. Remains of motte only. Private.
CHARTLEY Staffordshire Ruins of a large castle with a cylindrical tower surrounded by a towered curtain wall. The sonework dates from the early 13th century. Private. By A518 near Stowe by Chartley
CHIPCHASE TOWER Northumbria 4 storey tower built in 1350 on the left bank of North Tyne, 10 miles north of Hexham
CYMER Gwynedd A Welsh castle built in 1116 but burnt down soon after building. Only the motte remains. Private.
CYNFAEL Gwynedd A Welsh timber castle built 1147 that was burnt down within a few years. Private.
DEUDRAETH Gwynedd Built by the Welsh in 1188 on a rocky outcrop. It was demolished in 1860 and little remains. Open.
DILSTON Northumbria A small tower keep from early 15th century. Private.
DINAS EMRYS Gwynedd An end 12th/early 13th century Welsh stone keep on the site of Roman fort. Only the foundations remain. Private.
DINEFWR   A new castle was built in 1856 after the old Welsh 12/13th century structure was damaged by fire in the 18th century. Yhe round keep remains. Will be opened to the public.
GELLIGAER Glamorgan A tree covered motte probably late12th century near the site of a Roman fort. Open.
HAGGERSTON Northumbria A single tall tower remains from a fortified manor house, date unknown. In grounds of caravan site.By A1, south of Berwick.
LLANGADOG Ceredigion Early 13th century motte is still visible.
LLANRHYSTUD Ceredigion Timber Welsh 1149 castle destroyed by fire in 1151. Only earthworks remain. Private.
MITFORD Northumbria Early Norman motte from about 1100 near Morpeth which is now in ruins. It had an unusual five sided keep. Open.
MORGRAIG South Glamorgan A substantial Welsh castle from 1264 which may never have been completed. Now ruined. Private.
MORLAIS Mid Glamorgan Late 13th century (1287) originally with 6 towers. Little remains above ground but vaulted basement is well preserved.
MORPETH Northumbria The gatehouse of one of the original two castles in Morpeth is all that remains of the fortifications. It has now been converted into a private residence.
NEW CASTLE   The Norman gateway and a piece of wall remain dating back to1104. The rectangular keep was built in 1172-77. Near Bridgend.
PENCADER Ceredigion A grassy mound remains from a motte and bailey castle built in 1146.
PENTILOE Devon 10 miles NW of Plymouth, Paynters Cross
RHAYADER Powys Welsh built in 1177 and destroyed at the end of the 12th century.
SANDALL MAGNA   1157, but the remaining stone is early 14th century. Slighted in 1646. I mile south of Wakefield
SEATON DELAVEL Northumbria Only the chapel remains, the Norman castle having been replaced by a new building. Off A192, 6 miles north of North Shields
SENTENCE Pembrokeshire Only the motte remains.
SLEAFORD Lincolnshire 12th century, a few earthworks only are visible. Off A12, south of Lincoln.
ST CLEARS Ceredigion Earthwork fortification from 1153 destroyed three times in 12th/13th century.
ST DONAT'S South Glamorgan Built in 1300. The Elizabethan Great Hall was restored in 1925. Open June - July.
ST QUENTINS South Glamorgan Early 14th century but probably never finished. Ruins now overgrown. Private.
THIRWALL   Ruin of a mid 14th century tower-house, built with a tower at each corner. Open.
TOMEN Y RHODWYDD Denbigh Motte & bailey castle built in 1149 by the Welsh and burnt down in 1157. Earthworks only remain. Private.
TREFILAN Ceredigion Welsh built castle of 1233 with large motte. Burnt down 1282. Private.
WHORLTON   Only a 1300 gatehouse remains near Swainbury. Private.
WOODSFORD Dorset Fortified manor house. Private
YSTRADMEURIG Ceredigion Norman motte & bailey from 1110. Captured at least 4 times before demolished in 1208. Second castle dates from 1250. Earthworks only remain. Private.
