The Emperor of China - (He's rapidly going to pot!)

Princess Lotus Blossom - The Emperor's beautiful daughter

Genie of the lamp - (Light brown hair .... from a bottle)

Ghost - A hair raising job

Caterers (x2) - These two are obviously fed up!

Brigand Chief - In charge of a gang of hopeless brigands

Brigands (x6) - Pretty thick, and downright inept.

Announcer - A Wallace Greenslade sound-alike

The cast is fairly flexible so that changes can be made if you are short of members.

Some parts can be played as a male or a female without any loss of effect. However, the Dame is traditionally played in drag. Aladdin is ideally a principal boy in fishnet tights and Wishee and Washee can be played by either gender.

The number of brigands is negotiable and could include younger members of the group. The caterers are not essential to the plot.

THE PLOT

This pantomime stays closer to the traditional story than any other we've written. If you're looking for a straightforward script .... this one may be for you!

The evil Prime Minister Mr Blair, oops, sorry .... Fang, plans to depose the Emperor and take his place. He has employed a gang of cut-throat brigands to aid him and is only waiting for an auspicious time. Isn't feng shui wonderful? I bet he won't have dried flowers anywhere in his house! He has also persuaded the vain and not terribly bright Emperor to promise him the hand of Lotus Blossom in marriage.

Aladdin has broken the sacred law of the Emperor and has gazed upon the face of Princess Lotus Blossom. The guards Suzuki and Yamaha are looking for him and if he is captured his life will be forfeit. Things aren't improved when the Twanky family insult the Emperor on a picnic.

The evil Abanazer pretends to be Widow Twanky's long lost brother in law and persuades Aladdin to climb down into a cave to retrieve a worthless old lamp. He loses his temper and poor Aladdin is imprisoned in the cave for ever. Aladdin meets the Genie of the lamp and together they set out to put everything to rights.

Abanazer steals the lamp by tricking Aladdin's rather dim brother and Suzuki and Yamaha are enlisted by the Genie to get it back. In an action-packed final scene, the brigands get their come-uppance, Fang is sentenced to death and Abanazer is carried off to the end of the Earth by a pyjama clad genie. Lotus Blossom and Aladdin are united and everybody lives happily ever after.
