Comments	Subspecies created by default when George Argent established subsp. ailuluai. Argent lists three varieties of Musa maclayi subsp. maclayi, these are as follows: Musa maclayi subsp. maclayi var. maclayi endemic to mainland New Guinea. Musa maclayi subsp. maclayi var. namatani G. C. G. Argent from a small area of New Ireland. Musa maclayi subsp. maclayi var. erecta (N. W. Simmonds) G. C. G. Argent endemic to Buogainville but possibly also in the Solomon Islands.
