Comments Published as Musa oranocensis the "x" is added to indicate its presumed hybridity.  In this context Musa x paradisiaca is effectively the same as "an undetermined cultivated banana".  This should not be read as implying that Musa x oranocensis is Musa (AAB group) 'French' plantain, Cheesman's identification of Musa x paradisiaca L. (Cheesman 1948).

Harold Moore says that "this name, though it was once listed for plants offered in the trade, has no botanical standing, and should be dropped".  Plants to which the name was applied were thought to be a form of an edible banana (Musa ABB group 'Orinoco'?).
