MEGALITHIC MARATHON - A MAYDAY EXPERIENCE

Monday, 1st May 2000

Join Doug Hawkes, the Moray Coast Ranger at 2 pm at the Garmouth Hotel car park for a fascinating foray into the depths of the beautiful countryside of the Laich in search of enigmatic tombs, mounds and stone circles: ancient sites of ceremony and magic to our distant ancestors.  Stout shoes are required for this 10 mile trek through forest, farmland and the crest of Binn Hill.  Lasts for 4.5 hours

 

SNAPPERS AND SUCKERS & MOLLUSCS GALORE

Meet by the harbour wall in Hopeman for a stroll along the new promenade to the rock pools and skerries of Hopeman's East Beach.  Forage in the shallows for the crabs, buckies, anemones and blennies that make up the watery world of the ocean's rim, before taking the optional excursion to the caves and cliffs of Cove Bay.  Join Doug Hawkes, the Moray Coast Ranger at 10.30 am.  Lasts 2.5 hours.

 

DIGGING UP THE DENIZENS

Join Doug Hawkes, the Moray Coast Ranger in the Findhorn Bay Local Nature Reserve bird hide car park (signposted from the B9011 Kinloss to Findhorn road).  Explore the fast food factory of myriad shellfish, flounders, crabs and creepy crawlies that populate the tidal flats providing abundant food for the wildfowl and waders, ospreys and gulls of this internationally important bird reserve. Meet at 11 am.  Last 2.5 hours.
