Creon seems unperturbed by his son's angry departure: he reprieves Ismene, while sentencing Antigone to be buried alive - with enough food and water to avoid the blood-guilt. Antigone returns - ready for death - but angry at her fate. She blames the family curse, and explains why she, as the only surviving member of her family had to do what she did for her brother. She sees herself going, unmarried, as the bride of death. As she's led away by Creon's guards, the Chorus compare her to others who have gone into the dark. And now one who lives in permanent darkness arrives.
