This pattern is worked from start to finish without having to tie and cut if a split chain is used.  

Materials used - no. 20 thread and small beads.  This makes a snowflake measuring 3 1/4" across.

 

 

Abbreviations        

SR

Split Ring SCMR Self Closing Mock Ring  Cl close
T & C Tie and Cut +B  add bead to picot before joining     
B bead moved to take place of picot or moved along thread before starting chain  

 

Skills Required.  A knowledge of Split Rings, Self Closing Mock Ring and a Split Chain are needed.  The Split Chain can be avoided by working the centre ring and round 1 and tying and cutting.  This pattern was written with the intention of giving tatters more practice with this technique.   For help with the split chain please see http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/splitchain.htm

 

Before starting add 48 beads to Wsh2 - 6 further beads are needed for adding to picots on round 1

 

Centre Ring – Wsh1

2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 leave a mock picot and add Wsh2

 

Round 1

SR1:     2 – 3 / 2 – 3

*Ch:     8 – 8

R2:       3 +B(last p of last R) 2 +(next p on centre ring) 2 – 3

Repeat from * joining last p R6 to 1st p SR1 with a B

Split chain of 8 / 8 leave a mock picot & change to Wsh2

 

Round 2

SR7:     6 / 3 – 3  Change to Wsh1

*Ch:     B8

R8:       3 +(SR7) 3 +(mock p on Split Chain) 3 – 3

SCMR9:           4 B 4 R[4 B 4 B 4 B 4 Cl] 4 B 4

Ch:       8

R10:     3 +(R8) 3 +(same mock p on Ch as R8) 6

Ch:       B 4

R11:     3 +(base of next R of round 1) 3

Ch:       B 4

R12:     6 +(p on next Ch on round 1) 3 – 3

Repeat from * up to and including the last chain after the ring joining to the base of last R on round 1.  T & C to base of SR7
