Christmas Motif for 2007 ©-Jane Eborall 2007

This little motif which measures 3" in diameter is made in 'one pass' by using a split chain.  For those not comfortable with this technique then a tie, cut and re-start can be made after the central split rings.

Motif

2 shuttles – 7 beads on SH1 (load 1 of one colour and then 6 of another).  Work centre split rings and then cut SH2 leaving about 10” to finger tat with.  You will use this end until it runs out and then re-join shuttle.

Centre SR’s – using SH1

NB there is a FP made between each SR.

Place 1 bead at back of hand before starting SR1

SR1:  3 B 3 / vsp 4 – 4 Cl 1 bead at back of hand before starting next SR

SR2:  3 B 3 / FP 4 – 4 Cl 1 bead at back of hand before starting next SR.  Repeat SR2 3 more times

SR6:  3 B 3 + (vsp SR1) / FP 4 – 4 Cl  SLT

MB on SH1 close to SR6 cut thread on SH2 (leaving 10” to finger tat with as mentioned at start).  Take this cut end through the bead too.  SS (you are now finger tatting with the short end) – see fig. 1

Round 1

Ch:    4 – 6 SLT – see fig. 2

Using SH1 Lj to space at top of last B See fig. 3

SCH:  4 – 6 RW continue with SH1 See fig. 4

*LSC: x 6 SLT DNRW

SR2:  6 VLP (7 beads) 2 – 4 / 4 Cl RW

LSC:  x 6 DNRW SLT

R3:    2 +B (SR1) 4 +B (centre SR) 4 – 2 Cl DNRW SS

LSC:  x 6 SLT SS RW

SR4:  4 +B (SR2) 2 + (VLP) 6 / 4 Cl DNRW  SS

LSC:  x 6 SLT SS RW

R5:    6 +B (R3) 4 +B (centre SR) 4 – 6 Cl RW

Repeat from * to complete round joining finally to base SCH ‘ring’ – see fig. 5

P.S.
For people who don't want to do the SCH there is a way round it!!!  Make the centre SR's and then work the progression to round 1 like this.

MB on SH1 close to SR6 cut thread on SH2 (leaving enough thread to re-join with a weaver's knot).  Take this cut end through the bead too and then rejoin thread to the shuttle.

Round 1

SR1:    4 – 6 / 4 - 6 SLT

LSC: x 6 SLT DNRW

Continue from SR2 of original instructions.
