SELECT BIBLIOGRAPHY OF WRITINGS
ON M.R. JAMES'S GHOST STORIES

Books; Articles (General); Articles (Specific Stories); Web Only Articles.

Much has been written about the ghost stories of M.R. James, and a great deal of it simply repeats what has already been said many times. All of the following, however, contribute something original to the subject, whether it be new information, fresh insights or a different viewpoint (ranging from the valuable to the eccentric!). A version of this bibliography, up-to-date as of August 2001, appeared in A Pleasing Terror: The Complete Supernatural Writings of M.R. James (Ash-Tree Press), but many new entries have been added since then. Thanks to everyone who has contributed information. All additions and corrections are welcome. Not included here are articles on the TV and film adaptations of the stories unless they are discussed in relation to the originals.
