Fruit Cake Frolic - 9 March 2003

Liz Butler

As I very cleverly managed to send last year's report for inclusion in April's magazine, I thought I would try again!

Yet again we had superb weather and a grand turnout for this year's Fruit Cake Frolic.  Paul Harris was routemaster, with of course Henry doing his usual excellent job as backup control.  Everbody seemed to have a trouble free run to the bacon butty break at the fishing lodge at Patshull Park, although Keith appeared to be suffering from a lack of power.  On the way to Patshull we rode through the village of Brewood, and one or two people, who were actually trying to read the route card, seemed a little concerned that the signposts in the village bore no resemblance to those on the card.

No we hadn't got lost, but an episode of Dalziel and Pascoe just happened to be being filmed in Brewood and all of the signposts had been changed!  Who knows, maybe there may be footage of a platoon of NACC riders appearing on the BBC.

After a leisurely break and with everybody suitably refuelled, we set off for the return trip, and again Henry's services were not required, although we did come across Keith trying to convince his New Hudson that there wasn't much further to go.

Many thanks to everybody who joined us, and just a reminder that our next run from the Harvest Moon will be Route 66, on August 17th, which gives plenty of time for fine tuning your machines for this year's epic voyage.

PS: The Derny went home like a rocket, not missing a beat!
