Silchester Saunter, 10 October 2004

Bob Goodwin

The Thames Valley Section's Silchester Saunter had another superb day out, roaming the Roman countryside in Hants.  Good turn out of good machines, around 35 in all.  Including the Colin King special, the "Rex Hake Swallow" - Rex engine, rotovator handlebars, Atco exhaust, Royal Enfield footrests, New Hudson petrol tank, all nicely screwed together and painted black.  Ran well and a credit to its owner.  Another first time outer was Gilbert Smith's Clark Scamp, revived by good engineering and innovation, also ran well.  I must thank the cake stop staff for their hospitality and home cooking, not much more than crumbs left!  Also others who helped with my first rally, the arrow makers for the route, and printers of the course directions.  Finally, the good landlord and staff.  We may do another in 2005!
