Several years of research by Colin Hawes has shown that the Stag Beetle is restricted to the SE corner of the County. This is probably due to a combination of suitable soil type and climate (this is the warmest part of the County). The beetle is declining in Europe and has been included in the Suffolk Biodiversity Action Plan.
