Apart from brightening your life, and the lives your family and passing pedestrians; your front garden's flowers and vegetation provide habitats for a host of wildlife from birds to beetles.

Covering it over with stone or tarmac can change the microclimate of your street causing it to become dry, dusty and windy. It can lead to flooding as rain water cannot soak away.
Try to leave some earthy areas.

Even weeds are useful and attractive to wildlife - seeds are food for birds - their leaves provide shelter for insects.
