NKEF has acted to oppose the loss of scarce open space in North Kensington. In May 2001 NKEF made representations at a public inquiry to support Kensington and Chelsea Council in its decision to refuse a planning application which would have involved building on some of the open space of Meanwhile Gardens, one of the few open spaces in North Kensington. The appeal by the developers was refused and the decision of the council was upheld. Protection of urban green space is an important issue for North Kensington and NKEF.
