We are an Independent Union which is run for ADI's by ADI's.

As all Members are currently on the Approved Register of Driving Instructors, we know the views of ADI's nationwide and by using our strength in numbers, try to improve the working standards of ADI's together with an improvement in various aspects of road safety.

By improving the ADI's image to the general public it will become possible to gradually increase our lesson fees up to a reasonable level which justifies our "professional" qualification.

This would have the added benefit that ADI's would need to work less hours to earn the same amount of money and in turn this would then create MORE work for all ADI's.

Working less hours to earn a reasonable wage would have the additional benefits like less wear and tear on the tuition vehicle resulting in reduced maintenance costs. It may also be able to reduce your advertising costs as fewer lessons would be required to match your existing income.

Once we have attained a stronger, more professional and, importantly, "united" profile we can then ask the DSA to consult with the Union on all matters affecting the driver training industry as we hope to represent the majority of the working ADI's. Unlike any of the current organisations who claim to represent driving instructors but on the surface , at least, appear to be doing very little to oppose any of the current "measures" presently being undertaken by the DSA which could adversely affect driving instructors ability to earn a reasonable level of income. Once dialogue has been opened we can then target the various measures which are presently annoying many instructors e.g. the forthcoming changes to the Check Test.

At present who will stand by you if you are faced with removal from the Register? Don't you feel the DSA would show instructors a little more respect if they knew YOU were being backed by over 30,000 other instructors?

If the DSA insist on publishing ADI's pass rates then do you feel that it is fair that examiner's individual pass rates are also published and made available to the public? After all both figures are related.

A list of pupils who consistently bounce cheques or "forget" booked lessons could be circulated to ADI's to give them the option of refusing to take on a potentially troublesome pupil.

Many ADI's replace their tuition vehicles on a 2/3 year cycle. This means that in any one year there are between 10,000 and 15,000 ADI's replacing their vehicles. We hope to build a database of vehicles used by ADI's with a view to establishing discounts from manufacturers that would be far in excess of anything that an individual could hope to achieve on their own.

This is a simple summary of the main objectives the Union has set itself. The Union is for YOU, so if you want to view your thoughts about anything connected with our industry, then the Union is the place to do it.

The Union is extremely new and is presently building up a network of ADI's who wish to become Members and/or wish to help establish this long overdue Union.

An application form together with the Union fees can be obtained by clicking here or on any of the "Join us" or "Join" links on this page.

Don't wait for other ADI's to do the work for you.
The best way of creating a large, effective Union is by having a large number of members at grass roots from ALL parts of the UK.
YOU know your areas better than anyone else.
YOU know the local problems.
Tell the Union and help US to help YOU.
