FAMILY OF C. G. HALL

Non Nascor Mihi Solum

What is the Hall Family Motto?

The words Non Nascor Mihi Solum mean

'I am not born FOR myself alone'.

However there is another, apparently older, version
Non Nascor Ego Solum. which mean

'I am not the only one born' - 'I'm not the only pebble on the beach'.

This older version - above - is at the top of a stained glass window in the north transept of Harpsden Church, now hidden by organ pipes. The window commemorates the marriages of three Hall bridegrooms in the 17th century

The older version is on a brass stamp handed on by G A M Hall.

The newer version is the one handed down by other sons of C G Hall.
It was given in 1957 to Bishop Hall Jubilee School in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and is also used by the Bishop Hall Memorial School opened in 1979.

The newer version is included with the crest and the Hall and Gallopine coats of arms in a firescreen possibly embroidered in the 19th century - right.

Who changed it and why nobody now seems to know.
