There is a great deal of woodworking to be done at present, preparing the timbers for the rebuilding at Bullace hills Farm. This involves cutting joints and drilling holes for wattling. One common job is taking the sides off a log to make it straight and square using an adze. Another woodworker is a bodger - an itinerant craftsman working in the forest. He uses springy saplings to turn wood and makes plates, furniture and tool handles.
Rich men have tiled roofs, but outside of the towns thatch is very convenient. Many different plants can be used, but straw is easiest and best. It comes cut from the cornfields and has little other use (unlike hay, it has little goodness left in it - the plant puts it all into the grain). It held in place by hazel wood twigs and sticks.
