The shepherd is a skilled man who receives a craftsman's wage. Sheep are kept mainly for their wool. Wool is a very important part of our lives, as it is used for most of our clothes. Sheep are used to fertilise land by penning them closely in order to manure it. They also provide meat (mostly mutton rather than lamb).
