My grandfather, Jeeves I (the original) , Egypt, 1856. A visit to the pyramids whilst on expedition with Sir Winston Buxtonshire-Browne. Despite the searing heat, Sir Winston expected his tea at precisely four o'clock in the afternoon each day. Good for the morale of the men, apparently. This photograph was taken just minutes before Sir Winston was tragically killed during a freak camel stampede.

The perpetrators of Sir Winston's death were later seen off after the brave remonstrations on the part of my grandfather, an event later to have been described as a vicious yet unremitting standoff between man and beast.
