| The Ko Ken Ryu
Karate syllabus was created to allow an amalgamation between Shorin
Ryu Dentokan and Shotokan.
This was done
to allow people from varying karate background to adjust to the
karate teachings within Dentokan. As the we tend to attract karate
students from many different styles at the university, it was seen
as the most productive approach to teaching the fundamentals we
find important within our way of practising martial arts.
The syllabus is structured using the Dentokan
layout for the karate styles it teaches. A firm basis of progressive
empty handed kata is before including the weapons of the Okinawa Kobudo system.
A Proficiency Skills list exists for each grade
which will outline the qualities expected of a candidate for each
grade. These are pre-requisites they must have to be considered
to attempt the next grade.
Use the links to browse through the grades and
also to look at the equivalent grades in the other Dentokan Karate
styles.
