INITIATION TEAM?
The KSC ceremonial gown are owned by our Parish at St.Lawrence
in Feltham.
The Council prides itself in being well trained in carrying out Initiation
and full Knighthood ceremonies, usually in church where the
congregation
are encouraged to join in the prayers.
Councils and Province may from time to time call on our help and
participation
when new brothers are introduced to the order.

SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS
Council 514 organises a number of events each year.
Brothers take turns in visiting the Homeless taking them
Food, clothing and cigarettes.
The most popular place where a number of men & women gather
is on the Thames Embankment near the Aldwych in London.
****************
The John O'Hanlon Trust is very prominent in Co.514.
This was established in honour of one of our Brothers who
passed away after a long illness.
Funds are raised throughout the year to enable the Council to fund
a visit to Lourdes by sick
people in the parish. This is can be achieved either
by paying for a seat on one of the
coaches organised by other parishes, or through sponsoring a seat
on the ACROSS Jambulance.
Over the years over 50 sick people have been so sponsored.
The Knights organise a Cheese and Wine Auction for parishioners
and their friends.
This is usually in April each year and raises enough money to sponsor
one sick person
to Lourdes. This year, the John O'Hanlon Trust charter
has been updated to make
it possible ( Where no Parishioners are nominated) to use the Trust
money to sponson
one sick person either through HCPT (The Pilgramage Trust)
or the ACROSS Trust.

The Knights also organise Primary and Secondary school children Ten-Pin
bowling tournaments . The Junior tournament raises money for
St.Lawrence Parish while the
Secondary Schools event raises money for the Charity chosen by the
winning school
and the KSC charities

WELLS FOR WATER
This project was set up in conjunction with CAFOD and SCIAF with
the
objective of raising funds towards drilling and maintaining water
bore holes
in the third world. The project was aimed to last two years
and initially expected to
raise somewhere in the region of £120,000. The event
was well publicised and caught
the immagination of the Order at all levels. Every Council
in the land set out to raise money.
Council 514 decided to adopt an idea floated by Br.Martin St.John
of Council 545 West Drayton.
It was quickly realised that if we collected aluminium cans on a
large scale, we could redeem
these for money towards the project. Over the two years, Council
514 collected near enough
200,000 cans, which together with other bright fund raising ideas
amassed the sum of over £1000.

HALL RENTAL
The Parish Hall at St.Lawrence in Feltham has just been refurbished.
Arrangements
for the use of the hall are made through the Parish Priest Fr. Gerry
Burke.
St.Christpher's in Cranford has a small, but nice hall
that can accommodate around 100 people.
The bar facilities, if required, are run by the Parish Social
Club committee. There are also
excellent kitchen facilities which can be requested for use with
the hall rental.
Both parishioners and Social Club members are often encouraged to
use the hall for
their family functions and celebration. Contact Fr.Peter Sharp
on 0181-759-2160.

WHO CAN BECOME A KNIGHT
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practising Catholic
men in union with
the Holy See, who shall not be less than 18 years ofage on
their last birthday.
A practising Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments
of God and the precepts
of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of
the Knights of Columbus.
Every knight is happy to propose eligible Catholic men for consideration
as members.
Acceptance of the applicant depends upon a vote of the members of
the subordinate council
in which he is making application. All priests and religious
brothers having duly made application
for member ship and participated in the ceremonials become honorary
life members of the
Order and are exempt from payment of dues.
Application for membership must be made through the council in the
community nearest
the applicant's place of residence. Interested prospects without
a permanent domicile,
such as men temporarily away from home through duty in the armed
forces, may make
application through their home town councillor at the nearest council
on a military base.
If favorably voted upon, the applicant becomes a member by initiation
known as the
First Degree. He subsequently is advanced through the Second Degree.
There are modest initiation fees and dues set by subordinate councils
under regulations
established by the Supreme Council. For men in every walk of
life the name Knights of St. Columba
engenders the image of a united organization, efficiently going about
it tasks of
Charity, Unity, Fraternity, patriotism and defense of the priesthood.
It is composed of men who are
giving unselfishly of their time and talents in service of God.
Membership in the Knights of St.Columba provides opportunity for
wholesome association
with congenial companions who are, first of all, practising Catholic
gentlemen.
It offers the opportunity for fellowship with those who are of the
same belief, who recognize
the same duty to God, to family and to neighbour and who stand side
by side in defense
of those beliefs. Programs are so organized as to appeal to the individual
interest of the members.
Through many constructive activities of Christian fraternity, members
are enabled to render
service to their Church, and their their fellowman. Through membership
they develop a
consciousness of their ability to lead and to assist.
The Knights of St.Columba, provide the power of an intelligent, alert
body of Catholic men --
a strength which the individual by himself cannot achieve.
The Knights of St. Columba has a proud heritage. The qualified Catholic
man can share in that
heritage and build an even greater future by affiliating himself
with this forceful, effective body.
