TRIAL ONE : Saturday 30th Jan TEAM A: Waxwing (Goal) , Scabz (Defender) Lone Ranger (Attacker) , Zulu9 (Attacker) TEAM B: AA23 (Goal), Full Metal Jacket (Defender), VRP (Attacker), Guigsy (Attacker)
This was the first full trial under match conditions and a very enjoyable game. Kickoff was delayed for a few mins due to the snowbound conditions while we tried to find an orange ball. Alas we coudn't find one lol. After conceding two early goals against us (both by Guigsy) we came back to make it 2-2 with goals from Zulu 9 and Lone Ranger. However, with only about 10mins left in the first half a lightning attack by AA23's team led to us conceding a further 4 goals, while our attackers were unable to penetrate the oppositions' defence, and the half-time score was 7-2 to AA23's boys. The second half was a bit of a route as a number of defensive errors (and my goalkeeping performance leaving a little to be desired) coupled with some skillful teamwork by Guigsy and VRP allowed them to score 14 goals within the half hour, with only 5 goals being scored against their team. At the final whistle the scores stood at 21-7 with AA23's team the undisputed winners. Special mention has to go to Full Metal Jackets' rock-solid defensive work which gave our attackers a very hard time to say the least. However the standard of sportsmanship from both teams was high and we all enjoyed the match immensely. Many thanks to everyone who took part. Replay film of the first half can be downloaded here |
