ARMALYTE

By Thalamus Commodore64 1989

Armalyte (aka Delta II) was a
fabby little shooter for the C64 in
the R-Type/Gradius style, and was probably (along with Archer Maclean's Dropzone) the best pure shoot-em up the 8-bit machine ever saw. Utilizing some very clever muliplexing techniques to get round the problem of the 64 only having 8 sprites, Armalyte featured 8 levels with dozens of aliens and loads of fire power flying all over the shop, and none of the flicker that plagued many lesser Commodore games.

It was also one of the few space shmups to originate from the sunny county of Devonshire here in the UK (fact!)

Boss Pictures on right:

1. The first level boss, a bit of pushover frankly. Reminds me of the first level boss from 'Salamander' with a blue respray ;)

2. One of the mid-level bosses says hello..

3. Level 3 boss, and a bit of a bast to boot. Sorry about the blurryness, he was movin around a lot hehe...

Covers for the original C64 games Armalyte and its prequel Delta.
You can see some nice reviews of both at
