Thailand Buddhism Map

The overwhelming majority of Thai's are Buddhist's. Most following Theravada Buddhism. In Total there are about 200,000 Monks and an amazing amount of monasteries. Most Thai men become a monk for short periods of their life and as a result the family gains more respect from the community. I assumed before going to Thailand that all Buddhists, especially monks are vegetarian, because of the reincarnation belief. In reality though most Theravada Buddhists are permitted to eat meat.
