No. 9 Alan Shearer

Age. 28

Country. England

International Caps. 45 caps 22 goals

Best Centre forward in Europe. Shearer broke the world record for a transfer fee when Keegan paid Blackburn £15 million for him. Since then he has been worth every penny scoring vital goals for the club. Injury's have not helped him while he has been at Newcastle, but the injuries have not diminished his ability. Last season he only scored 7 goals which help get Newcastle to the FA cup final and has shown glimpses of returning to his best in the pre-season games. Brilliant in the air with two good feet Shearer makes up for a change of pace with shear strength and determination. He had a reasonable World cup for England in France dispite only scoring twice. If Newcastle fail to do well this season he may leave the club.

No. 20 Duncan Ferguson

Age. 26

Country. Scotland

International Caps. 5 caps 0 goals (retired)

Ruud Gullits first signing as boss of Newcastle United Ferguson is a traditional 'English' or Scottish centre forward good in the air and puts him self about a bit. But there is more to his game that that and over the years has developed quite a lot and is quite capable with the ball on the deck, he also has a good change of pace not really fast but quicker than Shearer. Ferguson has had his problems in the past, he served 6 weeks in prison after head butting a player, he also retired from the International setup when he didn't see eye to eye with the Scottish F.A.. He cost Newcastle £7 million after 4 years with the Toffee's and signed a 5 and half year deal, while he has never been a prolific scorer he should provide Shearer with a good partership. I have a feeling he will turn out to be a real crowd favourite on Tyneside.

No. 25 Paul Dalglish

Age. 21

Country. Scotland

International Caps. Under '21

Arrived on a free from Liverpool and immediatley sent on loan to Bury. In pre season he has been a revelation putting in some very good performances. Against Bray Wanderers he came on for Guivarc'h and scored twice. There are similarities between Paul and his father in the way that he plays, and it is fair to say that he could force his way into the first team this season.

No. 40 Andreas Andersson

Age. 23

Country. Sweden

International Caps. 13 caps 4 goals

Arrived at St James near the end of the season to bolster the United attack from AC Milan for £3 million. Bought as a replacement for Asprilla, Andersson looks a quality player but is less effective in front of the goal. Pacy and reasonable in the air he may figure in a position just behind Guivarc'h and Shearer this season. While his goal record in Sweden was high ( he also scored twice on his international debut ) he suffered when he was in Milan mainly staying on the bench, hopefully his confidence will improve this season.

No. 35 Paul Robinson

Age. 19

Country. England

International Caps. none

Signed just before deadline day last season from Darlington. Sunderland born Robinson played a few games for Darlington before rejecting a deal with them to sign a three year contract with Newcastle. He played a role in Newcastle getting promotion in the reserves last season using his electric pace grabbing a few goals.
