Young Goalkeeper signed by Dalgish from his previous club Blackburn in the close season for £1.5 million. Given had aready had a few loan spells from these he gained good reviews perticulary when on loan at Sunderland. Ater demanding a first team place Given left Blackburn. After losing his place to Shaka Hislop after and injury midway through the season Given got his chance again when Hislop refused to sign a new contract.

Newcastle snapped up Perez from arch rivals Sunderland on free transfer at the end of last season. The transfer was not well recieved from the Sunderland fans. A colourfull character with bleached hair and rolled up sleeves, as well as being some what interesting on crosses into the box. So far in Newcastle's colour's Perez has been awful.
No.13 Steve Harper

A rather unknown Young keeper who was brought through the youth team and offered a contract by Keegan. Harper has yet to make a start for Newcastle but has been on loan to several clubs including Bradford, Stockport and most recently Huddersfield. Harper belives he still has a future at Newcastle as he has just signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2001.
