OLD
PLATFORMS 10 TO 13
The East Lancs Platforms
(Under Construction) |
The
current platform 6 & 7, were, until
the contraction of the station in 1972, platforms 8 and 9, and
formed part of the East Lancs side of Preston Station. The remaining East
Lancs platforms were swept away during the remodeling of the station which
accompanied the introduction of the "Power Box". The
re-signalling also involved the closure of the East Lancs Preston
Extension line which until that point carried trains from the East and
West into Preston. At that point, the lines through platforms 8 and 9 were
re-directed towards the main line.
Photos of the East Lancs
platforms 10 to 14 are relatively rare, but there are a few about...
A view looking towards Vicars Bridge
from Platform 9 (now 7) in the final months of steam.
