SOUTH END

There is much to note in this mid-60s view of the south-east corner of Preston Station. 45402 passes under The Park Hotel footbridge with a parcels working.  On the right, some coaching stock is in the carriage sidings which occupied some of the land between the East Lancs and LNWR lines. Just to the left of the steam locomotive, the "new order" in the shape of a Brush/Sulzer type 4 (class 47) lurks in waiting as the end of steam draws near.

This slightly wider view of the south end of the station shows the ipressive signal gantry which straddled the exits of the main platforms. Hard at work is Preston's long-time resident "Jinty" 47293 performing typical pilot duties.

Much has changed at the south end of the station. The building behind the locomotive and the foot-bridge to the Park hotel (left edge of the photo), pictured here, have now gone. The signal gantries and bench are also missing from the modern scene.
