The 2009 Ribble Steam Railway Steam Gala was again blessed with superb weather on both days, as these pictures show.

A big thanks to all the volunteers who made the day such a success.

67017 stands at the north end of the train which had brought Rangers fans to Manchester for their UEFA Cup final at the City of Manchester Stadium. The train was top & tailed with class 67s, and consisted mainly of ex-Virgin Mk2s. (ASB)

At the south end of the train, 67020, a Mk1 support vehicle and a "Fag-packet" liveried Mk2 complete the formation.

There are photographs here of this train passing Blackrod earlier in the day.

3rd / 5th May 2008

The bank holiday weekend 3rd - 5th May 2008 provided a good selection of traction on tours through Preston. First up for me should
have been

D1015 Western Champion pauses at Preston on the return leg of
the Western Scot, having visited Edinburgh.

On its departure, the veteran diesel-hydraulic gave quite a display,
with plenty of "clag". Hopefully this will appear on the planned DVD,
to be made available through this website.

See the Video Page to see the clip.

On Monday, the interest was provided by 37401 and 37417 on Kingfisher's Settle & Carlisle Experience circular tour from Barrow to Aberyswyth, returning via the WCML. "In the can" is a quick shot of the pair coasting under the Cadley Causeway bridge,  a mile or so north of the station. Sorry, no photograph - unless I can get a still off the camcorder.

Meanwhile, 40145 East Lancashire Railway was in charge of the Cambrian Coast Explorer. The "whistler" is pictured here pausing at Platform 2 on the homeward leg.

See the Video Page to see the clip.

16th April 2008
Sir Nigel Gresley becomes the third A4 to be let loose on the main line, joining Union of South Africa and Bittern.

The loaded test run took 60007 through Preston on Wednesday 17th April 2008, with a planned break of 1 hour and 17 minutes in the station. In the event, the loco arrived early and paused for just 10 minutes meaning that some people missed it altogether.

20th March 2008
Despite having high miles on some of the vehicles in the MK3 rake, "The Chief's Trainset" ventured north today on a Bank Holiday relief. The train ran to Preston from London Euston, and returned as the 17.00 back to the capital.

Photos hot off the press from Mike Thomas

15th March 2008
For most of the Cotton Mill Express tour, the loco in charge was Ian Riley's BR Standard 76079. Here it is seen after backing off the train and manoeuvring onto Platform 7 to take water.

For some weeks, 6201 Princess Elizabeth had been holed-up at Carnforth after a cancelled tour to Ravenglass, so the operators and owners decided to take the opportunity to get the loco home to Bury.

Before that could happen, 76079 performed a series of rather baffling shunting movements with the tour stock and two coaches which 6201 had brought with it.

Just to confuse everyone further, the train had secretly been re-timed and re-routed due to 6201 not being cleared for the Preston - Bolton route. I know of several people who spen an hour and a half waiting at various points along the original route...
