10th May 2008

By way of a change... here is a video of 6233 Duchess of Sutherland on the return leg of the Fylde Coast Express from to Sheffield to Blackpool. The loco was about to pass through the station for a fourth time that day, having travelled via Preston to Blackpool, then in each direction on the way to Farington/Lostock Hall for turning.

Here, we see the loco rounding the curve alongside Tom Benson Way, just a couple of minutes away from the station.

3rd / 5th May 2008
D1015 Western Champion pauses at Preston on the return leg of
the Western Scot, having visited Edinburgh.

On its departure, the veteran diesel-hydraulic gave quite a display,
with plenty of "clag". Hopefully this will appear on the planned DVD,
to be made available through this website.

On Monday, the interest was provided by 37401 and 37417 on Kingfisher's Settle & Carlisle Experience circular tour from Barrow to Aberyswyth, returning via the WCML. here is a quick shot of the pair coasting under the Cadley Causeway bridge,  a mile or so north of the station.

Meanwhile, 40145 East Lancashire Railway was in charge of the Cambrian Coast Explorer.

The "whistler" departs from Platform 2 on the homeward leg.
