A Year in Rally's- 2001
Well what a year 2001 was - Foot and Mouth outbreaks, Rally's Cancelled more postponed and those that were held seemed to lack the numbers of previous years. But for all that I still had a good time and ventured into areas of this fair country that I had previously not yet seen.
The season started with the Shepton Mallet Bike show. Not your run of the mill Micro rally but a well attended bike show held in February. This was the 3rd year in succession we had participated at this event- it wasn't as cold as previous ones and was well attended with various classic motorcycle clubs.
This was followed shortly after with another bike show this time at Stonelly. This show featured modern bikes but also had a couple of stands with 3 wheelers including the latest Grinalll trike.
The first Microcar rally for me was the Welsh event put on by "me pally's in the valleys". A good one to start with as it gives the old girl a bit of a run through the Woster countryside. It was at this rally the foot and Mouth outbreak really showed what devastation it had caused to Britain. My home county was not effected but as you drive through the Wostershire valleys the culling of sheep had been pretty drastic with hardly any left.
The Micro Maniacs Rally this year was held in a new location- Selby in Yorkshire. The camping and events took place in a nursery as opposed to Rudding Park. The micro maniacs always put on a good event and there was no exceptions this year-evening entertainments included pie and peas and the quiz.
Below are some images that capture 2001...
The Bath event held again at Stotfold and Pitt Rugby Clubs ground was another good do 9 Bugs turned up, a road run took place and a trip to Bristol in an open topped bus was the order of the day Sunday. The Bug Club had the usual session on the 2 nights along with a bar b que.
The
Hengrave Rally always Bi annual was held again this year. You can normally bank
on seeing some strange stuff at this event from un restored to immaculate
examples. One of the organizers bought along a complete wreck that looked like
it had stood in a hedge for years-I think it was a Safety seven but won't swear
to it.
The Yard of Ale contest was another feature in which Chris Powell and myself tried our hand at. The Bug Club had its own "little" road run on Saturday where we took in the sites of Aldeburgh.
The season for most ends with the National Micro car rally but as this coincided with the Round Britain trip I couldn't go so my season ended with the trip to Swindon and Jeff Ellis's pie and pint rally at Lechlade.
Well that concludes the round up of my rally's for 2001. If you or your club is putting together that may be of interest to us Micronaughts in 2002 please feel free to let us know and I will give it a plug..
See you all next year.
