AW society gets going
A SOCIETY formed to mark the work of a man who inspired countless numbers to discover the Lake District fells has got off on the right foot. Within a week of applications for
the Wainwright Society being sent out, out
than 50 people have signed up to become members. The society, which was officially founded in November, in Ambleside, celebrates the life and works of writer
and walker Alfred Wainwright. The society's committee,
chaired by broadcaster Eric Robson, has already stepped into
action with a newsletter out in January, plans for
a members' walk in the Lake District in April and a
planned talk by Wainwright's biographer Hunter Davies in autumn.
Anyone who would like to join the society should contact Morag Clement, at Kendal Museum, on 01539-721374 or visit the website at www.wainwright.org.uk
