About Kev

Kevin is a Freelance Lighting Cameraman.   Based in London UK.

He has been on the Freelance circuit since 1983 and has enjoyed working in many areas of both Film and Television Production.

Kevin's career in TV began in 1975, when working on Britain's first community cable channel and has since enjoyed a successful 25 years in the Industry.

Trained as a VT Editor, Kevin was commissioned to operate the 2nd BVU U-matic edit suite in the country.

Long late nights in the cellars prompted a move, and as Camera Assistant to Tony (Forsythe Saga) Leggo, Kevin's camera career began in mainstream production on 16mm productions for the BBC, ITV Regions, Corporate Television and on 35mm for Cinema Support Features (B Films). This was a long and successful partnership, during which time lighting design was high on the agenda. Tony's son Michael is now Head of LE at the BBC.

Kevin's operating career began in earnest in 1984 at the time of the introduction of lightweight videotape technology with 8hrs of DrumCorps produced for Channel 4 in it's first months of operation, A principle part of this series was a 2hr special single camera documentary on the "Dagenham Crusaders" visit to the USA and the World Finals at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Drama, Comedy, News, L.E. Pop Promo's, Current Affairs, Daytime and Nightime programs all figure in Kevin's experience throughout this period.

A short contract with a regional production company, enabled a return to the edit suite, this time Betacam, with regular time out to record the "rushes".

This led to some Installation design, which included a Studio, Edit Suite and Local Radio facilities for a Leading Cable Communications Company in London, and a state of the art Edit Facility in Chelsea (The Plaza Suite). Both of these commissions led to corporate managerial posts, but the lure of the camera was to win again.

In 1990 Kevin won the first Independent commission from Central Television, to produce the Shaw Taylor Police 5 series. This prompted the build of a mobile shooting and editing facility, which toured the Midlands shooting and editing up to the minute appeals from the Regional Force.

"In-house - independancy!" was the order of the day, in the other regions, and sadly this wonderful partnership came to an end.

The Production Vehicle was hired by HTV Bristol, as a facility for a 2 camera live inject to a 12hr cable station - "Wire TV". Camerawork, Editing, Engineering and Directing kept Kevin busy, and when the complete 4 hr am Magazine slot went "on the Road" in a purpose built OB Facility he was a natural choice as Engineering/Unit Manager.

This was a 50 week series, of which Kevin directed the latter 21 weeks (420 hrs live)

This led to directing days at Live TV and a 13 part series at TVX (Caesar's Rude Arena).

The Production Vehicle has for 6 years been the heart of the US Golf Channels coverage of the European Tour operated by Corinthean Television for TWI.

Over the last decade Kevin has been a popular director's choice in the Live sports field, and has operated at many major Historic Sporting events throughout the World.

Kevin followed every ball of Brian Lara's Inning's which smashed the all time run record, during the West Indies Tour Vs England in Antigua.

Whilst on Cricket, Kevin was commissioned as the Technical Manager for the Pakistani segment of the Cricket World Cup 96, which included the 16 Camera Final, won by Sri Lanka in Lahore.

The Sporting complement includes, to name a few. American Football, Athletics, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Formula One, Golf, Gymnastics, Horse Racing, Ice Skating and Dance, Ice Hockey, Motor Sport, Rugby, Super Bikes, Tennis,

He has worked on more than 200 golf Tournaments around the World including 4 Ryder & 2 Solheim Cup Matches, and combined his Wescam and golfing coverage skills following balls from the Goodyear Airship throughout Europe in '98.
