page gives (and invites) information on the family and descendents of
John Bradford
(1800-1869).
John Bradford (an auctioneer and glass and stoneware merchant) was born
in Bath, Somerset, England in 1800 although his family came originally
from north Herefordshire. Sometime between 1828 and 1830 the family
moved to Scotland, where they lived in various towns, latterly Dundee.
His first wife, Elizabeth Jennings, was from Chippenham, Wiltshire.
There is a family tradition that the Jennings were wealthy, with
attempts being made in the middle C19 to lay claim to some of it. The
Bradfords also had claims against the estate (in Chancery) of Henry
Bengough (of Bristol, but originally from north Herefordshire, died
1818) through a relationship by marriage. It is unclear why they
thought this claim was well founded and the supposed wealth of the
Jennings’s may be a confusion with this. I have some information about
both John Bradford’s and Elizabeth Jennings’s ancestors.
