After years of plying his trade in the Supreme bootroom, 1999 was the debut year for fifteen year old Cameron "Animal" Busby.
Although known more for his outfield skills, Animal filled the goalie's position created by his father's absence from the competition this year.
The Animal had always shown potential in Supreme training sessions but being several years younger than the senior squad members meant that he lacked the hard edge in his game required for West London's toughest outdoor 5-a-side competition.
With the passage of time, the Animal gained a few pounds and the upper body strength required to mix it with the senior players. With maturity also came experience and the Animal no longer gives away the ball without tracking back and making up for it. The emergence of these three traits coupled with his natural flair restored Supreme Deluxe's look of youthful hunger lost so long ago in their first entry in the Walpole 5-a-sides.
Future prospects: The Animal narrowly missed out on a trial with QPR at the beginning of this season. He was on loan to Brentford from Supreme Deluxe FC and the outcome of this is unknown. It is clear that this product of Supreme's youth policy has a bright future in the beautiful game, with which club that future lies, remains to be seen.
2000 Update
Having cut his teeth in the previous year, Cammo once again played as goalkeeper for SD, showing that he is well on the way to succeeding his father Dave as our most imposing last line of defence. Defying his years (or lack thereof), Cammo contorted himself in an unbelieveable array of shapes to ensure that SD conceded only 5 goals, as was the case in 1999. He should also be commended for being one of the few goalkeepers who did not concede a penalty during the tournament for sliding out of his area, or for overarm throwing. This maturity beyond his years shows he has been spending far too long watching 18 rated movies on his brother's DVD player at night!!
