Pre-Pay is the latest way to buy a mobile phone without any contractual obligations. You simply purchase a mobile phone of your choice and pay to use it on an ongoing basis. If you decide tomorrow that you no longer need the phone, nobody is going to come after you demanding you pay outstanding charges.
This flexibility is making pre pay become a very lucrative market. It's a bit like buying a phonecard. You pay for everything up front. The schemes are especially suitable for people under 18 years of age, those who have failed a credit check and people on a tight budget.
Pre-Pay packages can make ideal gifts because you are not giving anyone anything that they are forced to pay for. Once you use up your inclusive minutes or airtime, you can simply purchase more time either directly over the phone, from most dealers (including ourselves) and even many high street stores, supermarkets and post offices.
Normal "contract phones" will never become obsolete, especially as many pre pay schemes do not currently offer users the wide range of additional services that you get on a normal month by month tariff. Some (Cellnet Easylife and "U") pre-pay packages allow international calling and roaming but the charges are hugely inflated, so it is only ever likely to be useful for a real emergency should you ever take your phone abroad.
Take a look at the various pre-pay schemes that are available from CJM Communications. The main ones are listed below and the links will take you to the appropriate network.
Before you look at each individual service, take a look at the table below to see who offers what. If you need international roaming, Cellnet it your only option for example.
