Photograph of Herbert Halliday in Uniform (3)
|
This picture was probably taken while
Herbert Halliday was on leave in his home town of Rawtenstall towards the end
of 1915.
Interestingly, in this picture he is wearing dispatch rider boots. His brother Abraham also lived in Rawtenstall. There is a picture of Abraham and his family in the same studio indicating that the studio was probably in Rawtenstall. Many of the men of the 27th Division had leave at the end of 1915 before they set sail for Salonika. For many who served in Macedonia this would be the last time they would see home for three years. Some, however, would never see home again. |
