Updating my Chaos Force

Introduction

Having secured a copy of the new Chaos Codex I am once again faced with the task of updating my force, only this time I have all the wargear and gifts to consider too. I'll try as much as possible to convert units faithfully from 2ndEd, rather than my DE force which has been designed from the ground up as a 3rdEd force. As such, it may not be the most effective of forces right now, although once I've had a chance to try it out I'll be able to work out what I need to fix first, probably fast attack, as this area is the one most lacking.

Apollyon, Black Legion Lord

Apollyon is obviously a Chaos Lord, and due to the there can only be one rule I felt he had to be an exalted Champion. First up in terms of wargear was his Suit of Terminator armour, along with the claw of Apollyon which I'm treating as a Powerfist for now. The good news is that his melta/bolter combi weapon is back, the bad news is that he only gets one shot with the meltagun. With this in mind, I decided to make his combiweapon a specially master crafted one. As I used to use him as a tank hunter, his termie armour shielding him as he blasted away with the meltagun, I decided to equip him with Meltabombs too. I could only take one of the marks of chaos, so I went for Slaanesh as the additional attack would be particularly useful with his powerfist and terminator Armour. For now, he'll have neither psychic powers or a retinue.
Summary HQ: 1X Exalted Champion of Chaos with Terminator Armour, master crafted bolter-meltagun combiweapon, Powerfist, Meltabombs, Frag grenades and mark of Slaanesh @ 151pts (not too bad, considering all his uses!)

Phyrexia, Black Legion Icon Bearer

Still no options for an independant Icon bearer, so he's an alternative chaos lord. He has to take the Mark of Khorne to get the Juggernaut, although that doesn't bother me at all as the bonus Strength means that with his powerfist he'll be S10! Unfortunately he has no ranged weapons or psychics, so he needs to get in close and quickly. Fortunately the extra toughness means he can't get vaporised by heavy weapons, but I'll still be a lot more comfortable when he's in the middle of a unit of Bezerkers or Juggers! To maximise the effect of his powerfist I also got him some spiky bits, which are nice and characterful too.
Summary HQ: 1X Exalted Champion of Chaos with mark of Khorne, Juggernaut, Powerfist, close combat weapon, Spiky bits and frag grenades @ 147pts.

Serapis- Chaos Sorcerer of the Thousand Sons

Chaos Sorcerers can now be equipped with different Psychic powers depending on how you want them to be used on the battlefield. The Tzeenetch power is still a Lascannon (although you no longer need the ld test), whilst the Slaanesh power is a great way of taking out opponents in assault. I decided to take this one for Serapis as it means I can use my Chaos Spawn model should someone be unfortunate enough to be cursed. I gave him poweraxe as well, although this may be changed into a sorcerer's staff at some point, whilst the sinple addition of a Sorcerer's scroll meant that missing his usual assault and then failing to curse some unfortunate would be unlikely.
Summary HQ: 1X Chaos Sorcerer with Power Weapon, Boltpistol, Mark of Slaanesh, Fleshy curse and Sorcerer's scrolls @ 76pts.

Rath- Chaos Sorcerer of the Thousand Sons

Rath will remain as the typical Tzeentchian Sorcerer, with the Flame of Tzeentch. I also took the opportunity to equip someone with a talisman, only available to a character with the mark of the changer of ways. He also keeps his Terminator armour, powerfist and twin bolter.
Summary HQ: 1X Chaos Sorcerer with Terminator Armour, Power fist, Twin Bolter, mark, flame and talisman of Tzeentch @ 81pts.

Aspiring Champions

These individuals are now simply an upgraded squad member, so I'll deal with them and their respective squads at the same time.

Spirit Brothers- Thousand Sons

Well, the T.Sons are now awesome with Bolters, but still unavailable with assault weapons. As such, I'm taking them as Veterans so as to be able to use both the plasma pistol and flamer, as well as gaining the infiltrate ability which is very useful for close combat troops. One of them is upgraded to Aspiring Champion with the increasingly common Powerist and Mark of Slaanesh, giving him 4 S8 attacks as he charges.
Summary ELITE: 5X Chaos Space Marine Veterans, two armed with Boltpistol and close combat weapon, one armed with Plasma pistol and boltpistol, one with Flamer and one upgraded to Aspiring Champion with mark of Slaanesh, Bolter and Powerfist @ 143pts.

The Mailed Fist- Black Legion

I intend to keep these as Havocs, once I've added 2 more marines that I plan to have spare from a big bikers/CSM/Tactical marines torso and armanent swap. This will bring them up to 3Bolters, 2Missile Launchers and an Aspiring Champion with, yes, a powerfist, bolter and mark of slaanesh- I certainly like this combination and it creates a strong Slaanesh theme too.
Summary HEAVY SUPPORT: 6X Chaos Space Marine Havocs, four armed with Bolters, two with Missile Launchers, one of Bolter Marines upgraded to Asp. Champ with Powerfist and Mark of Slaanesh @ 175pts.

The Black Guard- Black Legion

These guys are no problem (finally) and I even can take the Aspiring Champion's Bionic hand (sort of). There's even an opportunity to take a heavy weapon at some point. 4 of them carry bolters, but 1 has a converted Flamer.
Summary TROOPS: 5X Chaos Space Marines, four armed with Bolters, one armed with a Flamer, one of Bolter Marines upgraded to Aspiring Champion with close combat weapon, Bionics, Mark of chaos undivided @ 104pts.

Doombringers- Black Legion Terminators

Filed under 'when I win the lottery'- three termies with 2 heavy weapons is about as useful as a pair of snotlings until I spend a lot of money on getting some more. Oh well.

The Blessed- Black Legion Veterans

These guys remain pretty much the same, a veteran squad with Lascannon and Aspiring Champion with Plasma Pistol. Infiltrating down the same flank with the Spirit Brothers they can help each other out by providing covering fire and a close combat buffer until the main line catches up. I made a couple of improvements for Skarthax, the aspiring champion, gifting him with the Mark of Slaanesh and Master-crafting his Plasma Pistol in the hope that he'll no longer keep killing himself with it!
Summary ELITES: 5X Chaos Veterans, four with Bolters, one with a Lascannon. One Bolter Marine upgraded to Aspiring Champion with master crafted Plasma Pistol, Mark of Slaanesh. @ 175pts.

Ignis- Chaos Dreadnought

Ignis now has the ability to either go either mad in assault with 6 S10 attacks or blast away twice with everything he's got- which is a pair of Autocannon and a twin-linked bolter, great for cutting down swarms of enemy troops.
Summary HEAVY SUPPORT: 1X Chaos Dreadnought with Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon, Twin Bolter and Twin-Linked Autocannon @ 110pts.

Warthog- Chaos Dreadnought

Warthog is a heavier Dread than Ignis and more useful for taking out heavily armoured targets, wheras Ignis is better at cutting down squads with his mutiple shots and re-rolls to hit, but an AP which won't bother Marines. I could equip him with a Multimelta instead, but I prefer the Plasmacannon for it's extra range.
Summary HEAVY SUPPORT: 1X Chaos Dreadnought with Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon, Combi Bolter and Plasma Cannon @ 115pts.
