Chaos Space Marine and Dark Eldar clash for possession of Energy Grid

Background Information

Whilst the Undead and Imperial Forces battled it out on the main front, Apollyon used his greater knowledge of the Uralanian power network to despatch a pair of veteran squads in order to seize a small power generator essential to supply a Watch Tower giving a crucial forward command post. Initial Scans failed to detect the shadowy Dark Eldar Forces encamped in the area who, in a search for captives, launched an offensive just as the squads moved close to the watch tower. Unaware of the precise location of the power unit, both sides had to sweep the area whilst eliminating enemy forces.

Dark Eldar turn 1

The more mobile Eldar surged forward from their lines swiftly, fanning out across the field of battle. On the left a Haemonculi and his bodyguard advanced on the watchtower, whilst on the right a lone Haemonculi soared out on his skyboard, sweeping the ruins for signs of the power unit. In the centre a raider silently moved forward, carrying the Dark Eldar lord towards the Veterans whilst the Warriors dismounted and took to the shelter of the main complex of ruined buildings and shrines.

Chaos turn 1

The Chaos Space Marine advance was characteristically slower and more purposeful than the DE's lightning attack. Only the Assault squad facing the warriors by the watch Tower moved out of cover, the other veterans remaining perfectly still in order to bring their weapons to bear. The only shot fired was from the Lascannon- the ferocious pulse of energy instantly destroying the Haemonculi, despite the protection afforded by his darting skyboard.

Dark Eldar turn 2

Moving closer to the watch Tower, the Haemonculus and his bodyguard managed to locate the vital power unit. The Raider punched into the middle of the Chaos Lines, the Dark eldar lord leaping from the running boards to assault the stationary veterans. One was slain by the ravaging energy of the Raider's Dark Lance before the drug-fueled Lord closed in, ripping the head from the power-armoured shoulders of one marine and scattering the rest, knocking them senseless with precise blows as they tried to flee, taking their comatose bodies captive for the work of his torturers.

Chaos turn 2

As the Veterans were devastated by the Dark Eldar lord, the Chaos Commander personally teleported in to deal with the matter. Ordering the remaining assault veterans to advance on the power unit held by the Haemonculi whilst he dealt with the Lord and his transport. Servos whining in his hulking suit of armour, the Terminator turned to face his Dark Eldar counterpart and levelled his ornately sculpted combiweapon. With a barely perceptible hiss, the shot of the Meltagun slammed home, roasting flesh and blasting armour plates, hideously incapacitating the Eldar. Although not dead, he was of no more threat, and so the Lord turned away, his next target the raider transport. As the Flamer and Plasma Pistol of the assault squad did for 3 Dark Eldar warriors, he reached the hovering craft. A few deft strokes of his mighty powerclaw swept away its single weapon and then punched through the armour, destroying the propulsion units and sending it crashing to the ground.

Dark Eldar turn 3

Remaining still to maximise firepower, the two squads aimed their deadly weapons at their enemies. The haemonculi's Stinger punctured the armour of the lead assault marine, and as his body overloaded with toxins he was blown apart, the huge chunks of power armour and bolter rounds killing another of his squad. The remaining three were engulfed in a hail of Splinter fire, shard after shard lacerating armour, flesh and bone, wiping the experienced fighters out!

Chaos turn 3

The unstoppable Chaos Lord continued to slaughter the Eldar, blowing one of those hiding in the ruins apart with his Bolter before once again causing havoc in assault. The more agile eldar struck the first blows yet struggled uselessly against his armour. In return his crackling power claw tore apart all but one of the eldar Warriors, their battered bodies cast aside.

Dark Eldar turn 4

The Haemonculi left the protection of his bodyguards to charge towards the Chaos commander, Scissorhand grating together in anticipation of the carnage, virulent poisons dripping from the needle-fine blades. Yet as he struck out they glanced harmlessly off the thick armoured shell, leaving him open to atttack by his opponent. A single sweep of the claw disposed of both Haemonculi and warrior.

Chaos turn 4

All other targets eliminated, the terminator slowly turned to study the warrior squad facing him. The two closest to the power unit were mown down by his bolter before he reached them in assault. A single warrior managed to open up a chink in the mighty armoured suit, yet the tough character shrugged off the pain and killed 3 more, leaving just two to defend the Power Unit.

Dark Eldar turn 5

The two remaining warriors threw themselves at the lord with a desparation that surprised him, the haunted, dreading look in their eyes anticipating some terrible fate they would have to endure in death. Knowing that his soul too would be damned when he died, cursed to roam the warp for eternity, the mighty warrior made one last attack, cutting down both combatants with ease before seizing his prize- the power unit.
