Introduction
PSUPRO is a complete PSU on one board. No additional transformers or parts needed to get power to your DIY projects. Everything is there. Ideal for use in modular systems or DIY music projects.
POWER CONSUMPTION
Most analogue synth DIY'ers don't realise that PSUs are not as simple as they seem.
There is no easy answer to the question of maximum current availability. The regulators are 1A regulators, but in reality this is not possible. Regulators generate heat, if they get too hot they will shut down. Heatsinks help. You could squeeze more current through them if you use cooling fans too. Also ventilation in the case will help (just like a PC). To keep them cool you will have to limit the current you push through them, say to 500mA per rail (200mA for the 5V as it has a smaller heatsink).
But there are other issue like
peak and average current draw: some modules, like EGs and drum modules, draw little current until they are triggered.
VCOs: require a clean PSU signal. The signal will start to falter if the regulators are a little overloaded, where as other modules will run fine if the PSU is close to its limit.
My guide is that this PSU was designed for a 6U module system. No more. It will run most combinations of any module.
If the regulators get painfully hot (don't touch with the mains connected, and don't burn yourself. Many engineers put a bit of spit on hot components and see how long it takes to evaporate. If it sizzles off quick then you are running too hot!)
If your VCOs sound distorted then you are probably overloading the PSU.

DANGER!
PSUPRO uses dangerous mains voltages that can kill or seriously harm you! Only use if you have experience with mains circuits and you are a qualified electrical engineer.
Before connecting any mains voltage;
The PSU must be mounted securely using all 6 mounting positions so the board is secure.
There should be no access possible to the live mains side of the board.
The PSU should be fully enclosed in a case. The case must be earthed for safety.
There should be no contact between the PSU's live circuits and the case. Ideally add additional insulation between the case and solder sider of the board.
Use entirely at your own risk!
If the PSU some how damages your circuits, we only cover the PSU under warranty, not yourself or your circuits!
