MODIFICATIONSsynth & drum machine modificationsTake a look through the list to see if we can mod your synth Order / Quote |
We can modify most analogue synths and drum machines. The following types of modifications available are outline below;
(scroll to the end for more pic's and info);
Drum Machine Tonal Mods
We can add extra sound altering controls to some analog drum machines, like tune, filter, decay, etc. that allow the voices to be altered (like on a TR808). Note, sometimes due to lack of space, the extra controls have to go on a permanently attached external box.
Separate Audio Outs
We can split the main output to provide individual audio outputs for each drum voice, or in the case of some analog poly synths, for each voice. This allows you to add individual effects or pan each voice using your mixer and outboard. For a poly synth, this means you could have a stereo spread of each poly voice.
Audio Outs
We can also provide outputs from various audio sources within a synth or drum machine. E.g., raw waveform output from a synth VCO, source signal used in a TR606 high-hat.
Audio Ins
We can provide audio inputs to your synthesizer so that you can process external audio (CDs, sample loops, vocals, etc.) through the synth filter or VCA. We can also provide some audio inputs to drum machine voice circuits, eg. audio input through a TR909 SD filter (usually lo-fi).
CV (control voltage) Inputs
We can provide additional socket inputs to control aspects of a synth, like filter cut-off, pulse width, VCA level, resonance level. Most synths only allows 2 or 3 CV inputs, but some, like the CS5, just about every parameter can have a CV. Note, to gain more CV control that we list for each synth would normally require expensive extra circuitry for each socket.
CV Outputs
We can provide CV outputs from modulation sources, like a synth's LFO, EG, S+H etc. These can then be used to control another synth or modular synth.
Internal MIDI
We can add an internal MIDI interface to most analogue drum machines and synthesisers.
Misc.
We do other one off misc. mod's like;
LED colour change, internal back up batteries, additional misc. controls, Trigger output LEDs, Trigger output sockets from drum machines.
Mods are also roughly split into some of the following groups;
Modular Upgrade: this provides as many CV/Audio input and output sockets as possible to turn your monosynth into a patchable modular.
Basic CV/Gate upgrade: gives your synth CV and Gate sockets needed so you can control it from a MIDI-CV interface.
Look through the list below to see what mod's we do for your synth or drum machine. If your machine is not listed, either we cannot mod it, or have not yet had the opportunity to try one. So if your machine or mod request is not listed, give us a call/email and we'll give you a quick yes/no to if we can do it.

Notes about kits:
A kit comprises:
Full fitting instructions giving all information on how to fit it
All parts necessary, fully assemble as much as possible
Sticky labels where appropriate
You do not get:
A tutorial on any electronic/mechanical matters such as soldering, drilling, etc. Only competent electronics engineers should fit this. Basic skills are mandatory. But with care and electronic common sense most people should be able to fit them.
Any guarantee of your synth. All our kits are tried and tested and when fitted correctly will work and should not damage your synth (we have had no reports about this happening in our 8 years business). However, we are not going to take responsibility for your 20 year old EXPENSIVE analogue synth! Any damage or none-working of the kit/synth is (99.9%) always is due to carelessness. If in doubt, get us to fit it!
What is involved:
Kits are built as much as possible, but you will need to do some or all of the following (depending on the kit);
Drill holes in the case for switches and sockets
Solder wires to the PCB
Cut tracks
Remove resistors/capacitors or move them
Cut exit holes for ribbon cables
Some common sense maybe needed to layout the wires etc as not all matters such as this can be easily put into words.
Note: modification kits give you all the parts and instructions needed to fit kit. However, they do not give you details or tutorial into skills that may be needed, for example, soldering, drilling or say track cutting. If you cannot do these basic skills you should not be attempting to fit a kit! Kits should only really be attempted by skilled electronics buffs. Kits will work if fitted correctly. If you want it to work first time, get us to fit it! If there is a problem for ANY reason, we will not be liable for any costs whatsoever.
VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE SENDING US SOMETHING FOR MOD / REPAIR from outside EC:
If you are shipping us an instrument from
outside the UK (or EC) for a repair or modification, you must
clearly mark on the shipping documents and on a letter inside
that the instrument is being sent to us for repair/modification
and is to be returned back to yourself on completion. We do not
need to or have to pay import tax or admin costs (to the courier)
on shipments coming to us for repair/mod. If you fail to mention
the above, shipment may be refused by us or could incur charges.
Most couriers (especially including UPS and FedEx) charge for
what they call 'non-standard entries' - i.e. something that is
only temporarily coming into the country. The charge can be
anything from about £15 up to about £40. This charge is your
responsibility - it is nothing to do with us. Either you will
have to pay it direct, or we can pay it and bill you. There is no
cheap alternative to this.
Note: most packages slip through the system when sent by airmail. UPS and FedEx nearly always charge something in either tax or paperwork. You must always tick the box agreeing you to pay all charges of delivery and tax.
Our advice is to send synths for repair/mod by airmail. Insure and wrap well. Avoid couriers. Try and get the work done by an engineer in your won country.
