As mentioned before, there are many opportunities for walking or you might like to hire bicycles next to the large supermarket, Champion, which is on the main road from Laroque to Argeles sur Mer. Along the coast there are several resorts with promenades and long sandy beaches, although you may prefer to visit the delightful fishing village of Collioure. South of Collioure you come to Banyuls sur Mer where you can take the coast road into Spain for lunch.
If you enjoy playing golf there are courses at St.Cyprien (www.opengolfclub.com/Fr/mhh/) near the coast, and two excellent courses approximately less than an hour's drive away near Figueres in Spain. They are Torremirona (www.torremirona.com) and Peralada (www.golfperalada.com). All three courses have recently hosted the qualifying rounds for the European PGA. Alternatively there is the hilly, challenging course at the Falgos resort (www.falgos.com) in the Pyrenees mountains. Incidentally, the Dali museum in Figueres is a must. You may prefer to visit some of the mediaeval villages, such as the walled village of Villefranche Conflent. From here you can take the Little Yellow Train into the Pyrenees mountains. For children there are the beaches, holiday clubs, water
sports, zoos and Aquasplash at Canet Plage. There is a taxi service in the village if you wish to go out to eat and don’t want to drive back. There is a small market in Laroque on Wednesday mornings but a visit to the market at Ceret on Saturday mornings is recommended.
