Elspeth Davie |

Born in Ayrshire, she studied in Edinburgh (at the University and College of Art) and taught for a time in Ireland. She married the philosopher George Elder Davie, and won the Katherine Mansfield Award for short stories in 1978. Her hometown of Edinburgh provides the setting of most of her novels and stories.
