Lady Grizel Baillie

Lady Grizel (or Grisell) was born on Christmas Day 1665, daughter of the Covenanter Sir Patrick Home. She married George Baillie, whose brother Robert had been sheltered by her family during the repression of the Covenanters. She accompanied her father into exile in Utrecht, but the family returned to Scotland in 1689. As a songwriter she is best known for "Werena my heart licht I wad die", published in the "Tea-Table Miscellany" (1724). AC
