UK research

Active researchers include

Stephen Ransom - based in Germany whose mother was a CRUMPLER and whose family tree tracks the movement of the CRUMPLER's from near Almer in the early 16th century, through several small villages situated to the east of Dorchester, the county town of Dorset, to London

Shirley Percival - a local historian living in Lytchett Matravers in Dorset. She has written two books on the village; 'A Dorset village - Lytchett Matravers' (out of print) and 'Lytchett Matravers - A Dorset Village in Pictures' (ISBN 0 946159 73 4).

Ron Crumpler - a retired aircraft engineer who has extensively researched the CRUMPLER family and who hopes to publish a book on the subject

Kevin Crumpler - related to Ron Crumpler with a family tree largely based in Lytchett Matravers but with connections also back to the roots of the CRUMPLER family in Almer

Current status

Since April 1998, using the Generations software package by Sierra just over 570 names have been entered on the database centred on two main, unconnected family trees. Wherever possible sources are personally proven if data has been provided to me. An estimated 150 individual details still have to be entered and this backlog continues to grow.

Stephen Ransom and myself are working jointly on this research.

There are currently 79 individuals listed in the UK Public Telephone Directory.

The General Record Office Indexes have been scrutinised for Births & Marriages from 1837 to 1881, and many entries have been cross referenced to database entries.

The whereabouts of CRUMPLERs in the 1881 census has been established for ALL CRUMPLERS living in 1881.

Several Parish Register transcripts at the Dorset record Office have been researched. Full time employment severely limits the opportunity to visit Dorchester (about 140 mile round trip).

Details of all pre 1837 marriages held in the Dorset Marriage Index, maintained by the Dorset & Somerset family History Society, have been obtained.

IGI Genealogical Index 1992 records obtained for England & Wales.

Wills - several early wills have been obatined (1570 onwards) and my middle son is busily trying to interpret the old English handwriting. Permission has been granted to make some of these available on this site. You will then see the challenge involved.

Most recent highspot

Discovery that certain Dorset records are stored, and available for public viewing, at the Wiltshire Records Office in Trowbridge .... just 4 miles away with late opening on Wednesday evenings!

If you have any information on CRUMPLERs within the UK then this would be greatly appreciated.
