PENDENNIS CASTLE

It was erected in 1548 to protect Falmouth. It was strengthened at the end of the 16th century with a large rampart wall and during the Civil War it was extended with massive earthworks. Across the water is St Mawes Castle.

Little Dennis Fort was built on the rocks below at the same time to give additional firepower.

English Heritage open all year.
