A manor house fortified in 1219 with keep and towers by a Norman motte. The
twin towered
gatehouse remains, but much of the stone was removed after the castle was
slighted in the Civil War.
A programme is under way to preserve the remains by the Whittington Castle
Preservation Trust - see link below - so do help if you can.
