Transport Links
Although most of our guests arrive in Keswick by car, a significant proportion come by public transport. There are frequent trains to Penrith, and then an hourly bus service from the Rail Station to Keswick. The following links will let you plan your journey
RailTrack Travel Timetable - check train timetables for journeys throughout the UK
UK Railways Route Map - a useful map showing all the rail lines throughout the UK, together with the operating companies
Cumbria Bus Journey Planner - does what it says!
National Express - a cheaper way of travelling - and the coach comes right into Keswick!
Of those guests who do come to Keswick by car, many leave it in our car park for the whole of their stay and use the various forms of public transport available. There are some significant advantages, especially if you plan to get out onto the fells. Parking places near your chosen route can be limited, so unless you're off early in the morning, you might have to change your plans. You will also be restricted to a circular route, unless you fancy a road walk at the end (or beginning?) of the day. Public transport gives a greater range of options, and lets the driver enjoy the view as well!.
Keswick Launch on Derwentwater - just like an aquatic bus service, the Keswick Launch travels clockwise and anti-clockwise round Derwentwater on a regular 30 minute timetable. With 7 stops on the circuit, it provides an excellent means of access to and from the Newlands Fells (Catbells, Causey Pike, Hindscarth, High Spy &c.) as well as Grange and Ashness Bridge. And it's a pleasant trip in its own right!
Keswick-Penrith Railway - yes, I know it's been closed for 25 years, but with sufficient support it could be back in operation in 2-3 years. Check out the web site for more information. And even better, invest in the Bond Issue - the closing date is 28th April 2001.
