WALKING WITH KIM
Kim, our four year old collie, has a love-hate relationship with cars, so all her walks avoid roads if possible. She needs to be on a lead if we are on roads or near sheep so we always try to incorporate some sections in any walk where she can be off the lead. She enjoys running free in the woods where there are so many interesting smells, and also along the lake shore where she plunges into the water as well as swimming deeper to fetch sticks.
A wide variety of walks can be started from Cumbria House but the
scope is increased considerably by incorporating use of the
Keswick Launch or the local buses into your plans.
Our May
Walk takes you through
Great Wood and back along by Derwentwater. The trees are not yet
in full leaf providing dappled shade on a sunny day. Both the
sight and scent of the bluebells are intoxicating and you
certainly can't miss the wild garlic! Lookout for the tadpoles in
Ings Wood and if you are lucky you may see deer in Great Wood.
There are plenty of delightful lambs in the fields along by the
lake. Allow up to two hours for this walk if you don't want to
rush.
On a Sunday it is worth using the free National Trust bus service from the National Trust Information Centre at Derwentwater Jetties to Watendlath and walking from there. Our Summer Walk takes you over delightful fells and finishes with tea and homemade cakes!
