Prize money, plants and seeds kindly donated by Aylett Nurseries Ltd

Rules

  1. The competition is open to all young persons up to the age of 16 years at the Society’s Autumn Show on 5 Sept 2009. The main prize will be the Aylett Trophy for the entrant from the upper age group with the highest overall score, and the Aylett Plaque for the corresponding winner of the lower age group. Entry is free.

  2. There will be two classes, age 10 and under, and 11 to 16 years inclusive on the date of the show. There will be 2 categories within each class, each with prizes of £5, £3 and £2 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. The categories this year are (1) Dahlias, a cut bunch in a vase (2) Geranium in a pot. Entries can be in one or two catagories.

  3. To take part, completed entry forms must be submitted by the closing date 7 June. You may take advice but must do all the work in growing and presentation, using the plants supplied by Aylett Nurseries.

  4. The Radlett Horticultural Society will give each entrant 2 young Dahlia plants and 2 young Geranium plants at the trading store in Scrubbitts Park Road, Radlett. These will be at the Store between 10am and 12noon on Sundays 24th May, 31st May and 7th June, when completed forms can be handed in.

  5. The Dahlias can be grown in the open ground or in your own large containers. The best flowers from these should be cut and presented in a vase. The Geraniums can be potted into larger pots with the better of the two presented at the Show. Entries will be judged on the health and quality of the display. The judge's decision is final.

  6. The Competition judging will be on 5th September at the Autumn Show as classes 104 (Aylett Trophy) and 105 (Aylett Plaque). Items for judging should be brought to Newberries School well before 11.30am, when the school will be closed to all for show judging until the public opening at 3pm. The prizes will be awarded at 4.45pm, and exhibits can be taken home at 5pm.
